If you were forced to fish one fly for the rest of your life, this would be it. The Wooly Bugger is a classic non-articulated streamer that doesn't look exactly like any one specific thing, which is why it looks like everything. In olive, it perfectly mimics a leech, a damselfly nymph, a crayfish, or a sculpin. It is the ultimate "searching" pattern that triggers strikes from trout, bass, and panfish in rivers and lakes alike.
Why we love it:
The "Breathing" Tail: The soft marabou tail undulates with every strip or current pulse, making the fly look alive even when sitting still.
The Flash: Strands of flash in the tail catch the light and draw fish in from a distance.
The Push: The palmered hackle body pushes water and creates a vibration line that fish can feel, while the gold bead adds just enough weight to get it down.

Guide Tip: Don't just strip this fly. Try dead-drifting it under an indicator in deep runs, or swing it through tailouts. Big trout often mistake it for a large stonefly or a dislodged crayfish tumbling along the bottom.
