The "Muscle Car" version of a Pheasant Tail.
This pattern shares the same DNA as the classic Pheasant Tail Nymph, but it has been modified for maximum efficiency. Known in competition circles as a variation of a "Frenchie," this fly keeps the natural brown body that trout trust but adds aggressive "hot spots" and movement to trigger strikes in pressured water.
Why we love it:
The Double Hot Spot: It features a bright orange thread tag at the tail and an orange collar behind the bead. These create a "bullseye" effect that grabs a fish's attention instantly.
The Soft Hackle: Unlike a stiff standard nymph, this fly has a collar of soft CDC that pulses in the water, adding a "lifelike" movement that hard-bodied flies lack.
The Flash: The silver tungsten bead offers a different frequency of flash than standard gold, which can be the key on days when fish are shying away from gold.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is a phenomenal "Lead Fly." The silver bead and orange spots make it highly visible. Fish it deep in the run. Even if the trout doesn't eat it, they will often come over to investigate the flash, and then eat the more subtle nymph (like the CDC Olive Thread Jig) trailing behind it.
