The ultimate "what if" experiment gone incredibly right.
Created by Brian Smith at Ties Flies, the Swimulator is the mutant offspring of two absolute workhorse patterns: the Stimulator and the Woolly Bugger. After a few clever design tweaks, this incredibly interesting, non-articulated pattern was born. Tied with dumbbell eyes to ensure it swims hook-point up, it merges the buggy, leggy profile of a heavy attractor dry with the irresistible swimming action of a classic subsurface streamer.
Why we love it:
The Hybrid Design: It brings the best of both worlds. The rubber legs and buggy body provide a massive, chaotic presence in the water, while the streamer backend gives it that proven, undulating swimming action.
The Snag-Free Setup: Thanks to the dumbbell eyes flipping the chassis, it rides hook-point up. You can bounce it along the bottom, strip it over rocks, and fish it tight to structure without constantly hanging up.
The Multi-Species Appeal: This isn't just a trout fly. Its generalist profile makes it absolutely deadly for carp, bass, and it even crosses over seamlessly into saltwater applications.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 6.
Guide Tip: Versatility is the name of the game here. You can strip it aggressively like a standard Woolly Bugger to trigger predatory strikes, or dead-drift it right under an indicator. Even when sitting perfectly still under a bobber, the current will catch those rubber legs, making it pulse like a drowned terrestrial, a vulnerable crawfish, or a struggling baitfish.
