The Smoke Jumper is a specialized midge emerger designed for those frustrating moments when trout are sipping something invisible in the surface film. Unlike a traditional dry fly that sits on the water, this pattern is designed to hang in the water. The curved hook keeps the body submerged, mimicking a midge pupa struggling to break free, while the white wing keeps it suspended, looking exactly like the shuck of an emerging insect.
Why we love it:
The Hang: The curved hook shank drops the purple body below the surface tension, presenting the fly right in the trout's feeding window.
The Visibility: The bright white wing acts as a sighter for the angler and mimics the emerging wings or gas bubble of the natural insect.

Guide Tip: This is your "Refusal Fly." If you see fish eating on the surface but they are ignoring your Adams or Griffith's Gnat, switch to this. Apply floatant only to the white wing, allowing the body to sink. It’s deadly during a heavy midge hatch when fish are keyed in on the emerger stage.
