When the sun sets and the trout are sipping quietly in the glassy tailouts, they aren't eating duns, they are eating spinners. The Rusty Spinner imitates the "spent" adult mayfly lying flat on the water after mating. Because these insects are dead and drifting helplessly, big trout sip them rhythmically with confidence. If you see subtle rings on the water but your high-floating dry flies are getting refused, this is the solution.

Guide Tip: This is a "technical" dry fly. It is hard to see on the water because it lies so flat. To track it, try fishing it as a trailer 12 inches behind a larger, visible dry fly (like an Elk Hair Caddis). When the big fly drifts near a rise and you see a sip just behind it, set the hook!
