The "Buggy" alternative to the Pheasant Tail.
While the Pheasant Tail mimics slim, swimming mayflies, the Hare's Ear is the ultimate "generalist." Its spiky, fuzzy body mimics everything else: scuds, sowbugs, caddis pupae, and large stoneflies. This modern "Jig" version takes that classic effectiveness and adds a heavy tungsten bead and a "Hot Spot" rib to trigger aggression in fish that have seen too many standard flies.
Why we love it:
The "Spiky" Texture: The body is made of dubbed fur rather than smooth feathers. These guard hairs vibrate in the water and trap air, making the fly look alive.
The Double Trigger: Unlike a standard hare's ear, this features a bright orange rib and an orange thread collar which acts as a target for the fish.
Versatility: The copper bead gives it a natural flash that works in both sunny and cloudy conditions.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is the best fly to use in "riffles" (choppy, fast water). The spiky hairs create a larger profile that fish can see quickly in the turbulence. It’s also a top choice for streams with lots of scuds or sowbugs.
