The "High-Voltage" attractor that wakes up sleepy fish.
Created by Larry Graham in 1992, the Lightning Bug has become a mandatory pattern for anglers across the West. It is the ultimate "Attractor Nymph." Unlike patterns that try to blend in, this fly is designed to stand out. With a body made entirely of tinsel, it acts like a mirror underwater, reflecting available light to catch the eye of trout in deep, dark, or off-color water where natural dull colors disappear.
Why we love it:
The Flash: The tinsel body reflects light aggressively, making it visible to fish from much further away than a standard hare's ear or pheasant tail.
The Silhouette: Despite the flash, it maintains a natural profile with pheasant tail fibers for the tail and legs, convincing the fish it is food once they get close.
The Contrast: The dark peacock herl thorax provides a sharp contrast against the silver body and gold bead, creating a trigger point for the strike.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is your "High Water" hero. When the river is stained or slightly muddy from runoff or rain, the fish can't see well. The flash of the Lightning Bug cuts through the turbidity better than almost anything else. It's also deadly on bright, sunny days in deep pools. Maybe it's your Trico friendly nymph, maybe it's your Midge Friendly Nymph? Change the color, the size, and explore with the tested pattern.
