The Golden Chubby Chernobyl has completely taken over the fly fishing world for one reason: it floats like a cork and catches fish. While it mimics a Golden Stonefly or a hopper perfectly, its main job is to be the "Bus Driver" for your Hopper-Dropper rig. The massive foam body and poly-yarn wing allow it to hold up heavy tungsten nymphs without sinking, while the flashy underbody and rubber legs call fish up from the bottom.
Why we love it:
Load Bearing Capacity: It is buoyant enough to float a heavy stonefly nymph or jig underneath it, replacing your plastic strike indicator with a fly that actually catches fish.
Visibility: The large white wing is visible from across the river, even in white water or low light.

Guide Tip: Don't just dead drift it. Stoneflies flutter and skate across the surface. Give this fly a hard "pop" or twitch every few feet. That sudden movement often triggers violent strikes from fish that were just watching it drift by.
