The "Steak Dinner" for trout.
While midges and mayflies are like popcorn, a Crane Fly Larva (also known as a leatherjacket) is a full meal. These chunky, segmented larvae get washed free from the riverbanks during high water or heavy rain, tumbling along the bottom where big trout are waiting. This pattern features a realistic woven body that perfectly mimics the translucent, fleshy profile of the natural insect.
Why we love it:
The Profile: The thick, segmented body offers a substantial silhouette that tempts larger fish looking for high-calorie prey.
The "Roller": It is designed to tumble along the riverbed, mimicking a dislodged larva rolling in the current.
The Color: The natural tan/pinkish hue matches the pale underside of the naturals found in most freestone rivers.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is a deadly "high water" fly. When the river rises and the banks start to erode, these larvae get washed into the drift in huge numbers. Fish it deep as your lead fly and hold on.
