When the Pale Morning Dun (PMD) hatch is over, the adults return to the water to mate and die. This "Spinner Fall" is often when the biggest trout feed, sipping the helpless, dying insects from the surface film. The CDC PMD Spinner is superior to synthetic wing patterns because the CDC feathers become translucent when wet, perfectly mimicking the clear, glass-like wings of a spent mayfly.

Guide Tip: Spinner falls can be hard to see. If you know the fish are eating spinners (rhythmic, sipping rises) but you can't see your fly, try fishing this as a "Trailer." Tie a larger, visible dry fly (like a standard PMD or Elk Hair Caddis) on first, and tie this spinner 12 inches off the bend of the hook. Use the big fly to track your drift.
