The classic profile you trust, armed with the modern triggers fish can't ignore.
The original Pheasant Tail is arguably the greatest mayfly nymph ever invented, but this version takes that legendary foundation and turns it into a purpose-built Euro-nymphing weapon. By combining the natural, buggy silhouette of pheasant tail fibers with a vibrant hot head and a soft CDC collar, it perfectly bridges the gap between a realistic imitation and a high-attraction trigger fly.
Why we love it:
The Foundation: The natural mottling of pheasant tail fibers perfectly mimics the most abundant aquatic insects in the river, providing a realistic base profile.
The Pulse: A wispy collar of CDC (Cul de Canard) traps tiny air bubbles and breathes in the current, bringing an incredible illusion of life to a dead drift.
The Trigger: The fluorescent "hot head" thread wrap sits just behind the bead, providing a distinct focal point that forces reaction strikes even when fish aren't actively feeding.
The Drop: Built on a premium jig hook with a heavy tungsten bead, it bombs into the strike zone immediately and rides inverted, sliding over bottom structure instead of snagging it.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is an absolute must-have for technical waters like the Bow River. When the trout are hyper-pressured and ignoring standard bead heads, drop this fly down as your point fly. The bright hot head grabs their attention from a distance, but that lifelike, pulsing CDC collar convinces them it's natural food right before they strike.
