The best of both worlds: foam for floating, CDC for fishing.
This pattern solves the two biggest problems with ant flies: visibility and floatation. The segmented foam body ensures the fly rides high and never gets waterlogged, while the CDC wing and hackle add a lifelike softness that stiff foam patterns lack. It sits perfectly in the film, offering a realistic silhouette that convinces wary trout even in slow, clear water.
Why we love it:
The "Unsinking" Body: The dual-hump foam body keeps this fly floating all day without needing constant drying.
The CDC Trigger: The CDC fibers trap air bubbles and move with the slightest current, mimicking the struggling legs and wings of a drowning insect.
Visibility: The upright wing post makes it easy to spot on the water, a huge advantage over traditional low-riding black ants.
Quantity: Sold in packs of 12.
Guide Tip: This is a deadly pattern for "Bank Sippers." Cast it tight to the grassy edges on windy days. The foam body allows it to land with a slight "plop" that mimics a real ant falling in, which often triggers an immediate reaction strike.
