The pattern that changed how we fish emergers forever.
The Klinkhammer is brilliant because it breaks the surface film. While traditional dry flies sit on the water, the curved hook on this BWO version forces the olive body to hang under the water, right in the trout's face. To the fish, it looks like a Blue Winged Olive nymph that is struggling to break through the surface tension, an easy, vulnerable meal that they don't have to chase.
Why we love it:
The "Iceberg" Effect: 90% of the fly is submerged, mimicking the hatching nymph, while the parachute post stays visible on top.
High Visibility: The bright white post is easy to spot even in foam lines or choppy riffles.
Hooking Power: Because the body hangs down, the hook point is already positioned deep in the water, leading to better hookup rates than high-riding dries.

Guide Tip: This is the perfect pattern for "sipping" fish. When you see trout making very subtle rings (nose only) during a BWO hatch, they are often eating emergers just below the film. Grease the white post with floatant, but leave the body un-greased so it sinks instantly.
